Examples of the Difference We Make
The Health Education Council received a $1 million HEAL Zone grant which focused on increasing access to healthy food and opportunities for physical activity in the Valley Hi community. Improvements included installing hydration stations at regional transit stations, expanding Safe Routes to School, establishing walking clubs and fitness programs and providing nutrition education at farmer’s markets.
WEAVE, Inc. received a $35,000 grant for its domestic violence assistance project, to ensure family violence victims have access to crisis intervention services. WEAVE provided safe shelter, case management, a support hotline, and walk-in services.

Priority Health Needs
Access to Health Care
Provide programs for low-income and uninsured people; support local community clinics and organizations that help patients access culturally sensitive assistance and care-coordination.
Increase Healthy Eating and Active Living
Provide education and increase access to healthy foods and physical activity in schools and community settings that reach a broad sector of the community.
Improve Individual, Family and Community Safety
Support community or faith-based organizations that work to build safe neighborhoods and promote community engagement and activities that increase safety. Support youth engagement programs that provide interpersonal violence and/or family support services.
